Gérard Hugues is Professeur des Universités at Aix-Marseille Université, and Director of the Laboratoire d’Études et de Recherche sur le Monde Anglophone (LERMA) at Aix-Marseille.   He is a specialist in later eighteenth and early nineteenth-century American literature and culture. He has been a Fullbright fellow at Louisana State University and is an Associate Scholar, Jefferson Memorial Foundation.   Among his several publications are Jefferson et l’Ouest: l’expédition Lewis and Clark (with Daniel Royot) (2008) and Images de guerre et guerre des images (with Karine Hildenbrand) (2005).
